MEDFORD, Mass.--(Ciara Lawrence, Tufts University) Sophomore Dakota Sikes-Keilp (Montclair, NJ) scored two goals as the #5 Tufts field hockey team earned a 4-2 NESCAC win against Connecticut College Saturday afternoon at Bello Field.
The Camels fall to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in conference play while the Jumbos improve to 9-1 and 6-1 in NESCAC.
Connecticut College got on the board first at the 7:53 mark when Laura Sanderson sent the rebound off her initial shot past the Tufts keeper.
Down 1-0, Sikes-Keilp tied the game off a corner from Brittany Norfleet (Solana Beach, Calif.) that she blasted from the top of the circle that beat the goalkeeper.
Tufts took advantage of a corner with 25 seconds remaining in the first half as Senior Chelsea Yogerst (San Diego, Calif.) tipped in a shot by Senior Stephanie Wan (Morgan Hill, CA) giving the Jumbos a 2-1 lead at halftime.
Sophomore Rachel Terveer (London, Ohio) added a goal followed by Sikes-Keilp's 13th score of the season as the Jumbos scored twice in two minutes for a 4-1 lead with 25 minutes remaining in the game.
The Camels continued their pressure down field and made it a 4-2 game after Sanderson scored unassisted on a shot that went over the head of the Tufts keeper in the 54th minute.
The Jumbos finished with a 22-5 advantage in shots and 9-4 in corners. Becca Napolitano made 11 saves in net for the Camels. Junior Brianna Keenan (Greenland, N.H.) turned away two shots for the win in goal.
Connecticut College will look to get back in the win column tomorrow as they face Colby on the road for a 12 pm start. Tufts will play a non-conference game at Wellesley Wednesday at 4 pm.
