BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Elizabeth Holmes (Southborough, Mass.) scored a pair of first-half goals and first-year Ashley Tango (Reading, Mass. ) added a goal and an assist as Babson College defeated visiting Connecticut College, 4-1, in non-conference field hockey action on Tuesday night at MacDowell Field.
With the victory, Babson is now 3-0 on the year, while Connecticut College falls to 0-1.
Sophomore Elise Towers (Cicero, N.Y.) also scored for the Beavers, who led 3-0 at halftime, while senior goalkeeper Kayla Costa (Watertown, Mass.) finished with a season-high six saves.
Sophomore Katlyn Paiva (Rehoboth, Mass.) converted a feed from senior Heidi Halsted (Mill Valley, Calif.) for the Camels lone goal. Junior goalkeeper Ryley van der Velde (Louisville, Ky.) stopped five shots in the loss.
Holmes opened the scoring just 2:25 into the contest by tipping in the rebound of a Tango shot at the left post for a 1-0 lead. She followed it up with her third goal of the year to make it 2-0 at the 12:49 mark, and Tango's blast from just inside the circle made it a three-goal game in the 24th minute.
Towers stretched the Beavers' lead to 4-0 by tipping home another rocket by Tango just 5:59 into the second half. Connecticut College, which outshot the Green and White 9-5 after the break and piled up seven second-half corners finally broke through when Paiva tipped home Halstead's shot following a penalty corner with 4:42 to go in the match.
The Camels finished with a 14-12 edge in shots and a 10-8 advantage in penalty corners.
Babson returns to action on Friday when it travels to Wesleyan for a 5 p.m, start, while Connecticut College visits Middlebury on Sunday at 4 p.m. in its conference opener.
