MANSFIELD, Conn. – Junior Cara McConaughey (Scituate, Mass.) factored into two goals as the Connecticut College field hockey team defeated Eastern Connecticut State by a convincing 4-0 score on Wednesday afternoon at the Mansfield Athletic Complex.
With the defense being anchored by juniors Lauren Hirshom (Walpole, Mass.) and Gabby Peterson (Worcester, Mass.) keeping the Warriors in check, the Camel offense scored all four goals in a span of 7:34 during the first half. Senior Meghan Lembo (Southington, Conn.) put the Camels on the board by redirecting an attempt by Jamie Navoni (Natick, Mass.) in the 14th minute before McConaughey doubled the margin by lifting the ball over the shoulder of goalkeeper Maddie LaRusso. Navoni and senior Colbi Vaillancourt (Manchester, N.H.) then added insurance markers before the break to seal the final outcome.
Freshman Andi McGraw (Sheffield, Mass.) made five saves to pick up her fourth shutout victory for Connecticut College, which outshot its opponent by a 23-8 margin and had a 6-3 advantage in penalty corners. LaRusso of Eastern Connecticut State (7-7) turned away 11 shots and got additional support from her back line which combined to make three defensive saves.

Berklee Vaillancourt (Manchester, N.H.), Colbi Vaillancourt (Manchester, N.H.) and Lembo will all be recognized for their contributions to the program prior to the contest.
