NEW LONDON, Conn.--Connecticut College hosted the Coaches Versus Cancer Tip-Off in Luce Field House this weekend.
Sunday afternoon, the Bard College Raptors (2-0) defeated Suffolk University 85-75 to win the Championship game. Connecticut College (1-1) coasted to a 92-69 victory against Western New England University (0-2) in the third place game.
Senior guard Lamar Powell (Orange, N.J.) exploded with a game-high 25 points in a 10-for-15 shooting performance for the Raptors. Alex Fabean-Scotch (Alexandria, Va.) chipped in with 16 points, five assists and four rebounds. Powell was recognized as the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player with Fabean-Scotch joining him on the All-Tournament squad.
Chris McNaughton (State College, Pa.) and Siondueh Burnette (Lakeville, Mass.) chipped in with 14 points each for the winning side.
Adam Chick (Northbrook, Ill.) finished with 20 points for Suffolk, netting 6-of-9 shots from the field. Sam Nwadike (Houston, Texas) and Matt Powers (Westwood, Mass.) were recognized on the All-Tournament Team for the Rams. Nwadike followed up his 30 point outburst Saturday night with 17 points today. Powers contributed with 12 point and five boards in the frontcourt for the Rams.
Connecticut College senior Matt Vadas (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) exploded with 33 points and 10 rebounds in a monstrous double-double, converting 7-of-11 shots from long distance and 11-of-17 shots from the field.
Rob Harrigan (Milford, Conn.) was active at both ends of the floor, finishing with six points, three rebounds and two assists. Harrigan was feted on the All-Tournament Team for the hosts.
"We were more patient today and the quality of our shot selection showed in our field goal percentage," Connecticut College Head Men's Basketball Coach Tom Satran said. "Hopefully, we can build on today and continue to improve."
Western New England senior center Dennis Rinaldi (Harrison, N.Y.) had 18 points and five rebounds in the setback, shooting 6-for-9 from the field to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Zack Askew (Middletown, Conn.) checked in with 13 points and seven boards in a 6-for-7 shooting performance. Musa Elsir (Springfield, Mass.) netted 10 points to go along with six boards for the Golden Bears.
