NEW LONDON, Conn.—JC Cangelosi (Estero, Fla.) scored a shorthanded goal with 5:05 remaining in the second period that proved to be the difference as Connecticut College defeated UMass-Dartmouth 3-2 in the third place game at the Northfield Bank Tournament Sunday. Cangelosi was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Camels, who were within a single goal through two periods of action against top ranked Norwich Saturday night.
The Camels improve their record to 3-6-1 with the triumph. The Corsairs are 5-4-2.
Junior forward Will Einstein (New Canaan, Conn.) and sophomore Adam Patel (Alpaharetta, Ga.) both contributed first period scores for the Camels, who held a 26-to-22 advantage in shots and were a perfect 3-for-3 on their penalty kill.
Rookie net-minder Tom Conlin (Norwood, Mass.) collected nine of his 20 saves in the third period to earn his first win for Connecticut College.
Shaun Walters (Plymouth, Mich.) and Phil Bronner (Wilbraham, Mass.) provided the offense for UMass Dartmouth.
Junior goaltender Ben Vandervies (Hanna, Alberta) made 23 saves in the setback.
The Camels will visit the Empire State Friday night for a 7:00 p.m. NESCAC game at Hamilton College.
