NEW LONDON, Conn.--Louie Educate (Chicago, Ill.) and Steve Zappia (Buffalo, N.Y.) scored two goals each to lead the eighth ranked Utica College men's hockey team to a 5-1 victory at Connecticut College Saturday night.
The eighth ranked Pioneers improve their record to 7-2-1 with the triumph while the Camels fall to 0-5.
Jide Idowu (Copper City, Fla.) chipped in with a goal for the winning side. Ryan Walker and Trevor Hertz both had two assists for Utica.
Marcus Zelzer (Green Bay, Wis.) stopped 24 shots en route to the victory.
Connecticut College junior Michael Doyle (Merrimac, Mass.) supplied a shorthanded goal in the second period for the Camels. JC Cangelosi (Estero, Fla.) chipped in with his fourth assist of the year.
Educate accounted for both goals in the opening period and the visitors carried a 2-0 advantage into the first intermission. With 13:35 remaining in the middle period, the Pioneers cashed in on their power play. Idowu unloaded with a blast from the left point with Donny Olivieri (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Zac Lazzaro (Aston, Pa.) assisting.
But midway through the frame, the Camels would get one back. Doyle and Cangelosi broke free in a 2-on-1 situation and Doyle was able to bury the shorty to bring the Camels to within a pair in a 3-1 game.
But with 2:45 remaining in the second, the Pioneers regained their three goal advantage in a 4-on-4 situation. Zappia had some traffic out in front of the goal to work with and the senior blue-liner was able to bury one from the left point to make it a 4-1 game.
Zappia tacked on an insurance goal in the third and the visitors were able to hold on for the 5-1 victory.
