NEW LONDON, Conn.--JC Cangelosi (Estero, Fla.) scored the equalizer with 3:11 remaining in regulation as Connecticut College and Colby College skated to a 5-5 draw in a NESCAC men's hockey match up played at Dayton Arena Saturday night.
The Camels move to 2-5-1 with a 2-3-1 record in conference play. Colby College is 2-4-2 overall and moves to 0-4-2 in conference action.
Junior Joe Birmingham (Medford, N.J.) scored twice in the tie for the Camels. Tim DiPretoro (Philadelphia, Pa.) registered a goal and an assist. Mike Martinez (Orchard Park, N.Y.) scored his second goal of the season and Brian Belisle (Cumberland, R.I.) finished with two assists.
Junior net-minder Tom Conlin (Norwood, Mass.) finished with 34 saves and that included four stops in the extra session.
Colby College sophomore EJ Rauseo (Methuen, Mass.) had a hat-trick with three goals and one assist for the visitors. Devin Albert (Reading, Mass.) contributed with a goal and an assist. Dan Dupont (Wallinford, Conn.) chipped in with a goal and Jordan Nathan (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) made 25 saves for the visitors.
The Camels took a 2-1 lead 8:21 into the second period when Ryan Mowery (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) assisted Mike Martinez for a goal. But the Mules responded with four unanswered goals.
Rauseo tied thins up at two when he flipped in the rebound of a shot by Colin Reilly (Pelham, N.Y.). Later on with 10:47 remaining in the second, Rauseo stole a puck near the blue line and went in along for a score that put the Mules on top 3-2.
Rauseo assisted Albert on a shorthanded tally with 8:02 left in the second to make it a 4-2 game and the Mules tacked on another goal with 3:39 remaining to carry a 5-2 avantage into the second intermission.
But the Camels did not go away and with 13:53 remaining, DiPretoro got one goal back for the hosts when he beat Nathan to his five hole with a low shot for a Camel goal. With 9:31 remaining, Birmingham collected a rebound of a shot from Belisle in the slot and went top shelf with a backhander to make it a 5-4 game. Adam Patel (Alpharetta, Ga.) also assisted on the power play goal.
With 3:20 remaining in regulation, Cangelosi backhanded in the equalizer with assists coming from DiPretoro and Giordano to make it a 5-5 game.
Colby out-shot the Camels 4-to-0 in the overtime but the game ended in a draw.
