BRIDGEWATER, Mass.--Joe Giordano (pictured, Ellington, Conn.) had a hat-trick and Matt Michaud (South Portland, Maine) scored twice to lead the Connecticut College men's hockey team to a 6-2 victory against Stonehill College in a non-conference clash between the NESCAC and Northeast 10 played at the Bridgewater Ice Arena Thursday night.
The Camels improved their record to 2-6-2 with the triumph while the Skyhawks slipped to 4-6-3 with the setback.
Senior Tom Conlin (Norwood, Mass.) stopped 15 of 17 shots to earn the victory. The Camels were a perfect 3-for-3 on their penalty kill and were 3-for-7 on their power play.
Junior forward Thomas DePoalo (Menhdam, N.J.) and sophomore Brian Higgins (Milton, Mass.) contributed third period scores for the Skyhawks.
Stonehill College junior net-minder Patrick Farrington (Sandwich, Mass.) made 27 saves in the setback.
The Camels out-shot the Skyhawks 11-to-7 in the opening period but neither side could get on the scoreboard. But 4:24 into the second period, the Camels took the lead for good when senior Joe Birmingham (Medford, N.J.) assisted Giordano for the first of his three scores. With 7:19 remaining in the middle period, Meltzer put in his shorty to make it a 2-0 game.
Just 4:02 later, the Camels cashed in on their power play when DiPretoro was the facilitator on Giordano's second score of the night.
Michaud tacked on two third period goals in a memorable debut for the Camels before Giordano scored the trifecta with 8:32 remaining to close out the 6-2 win.
The Camels will visit Manhattanville Saturday night for a 7:00 p.m. game at the Playland Ice Casino in Rye, N.Y.
