Colby Blanks Men’s Ice Hockey

Kyle Moss

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's ice hockey team was set back by Colby, 8-0, at Dayton Arena on Friday evening.

Colby (3-2-2, NESCAC 1-2-1) got on the scoreboard playing shorthanded, as Nick O'Connor stole the puck away from a Camel defender and blitzed down the ice for an uncontested goal at 10:13. Justin Grillo then doubled the margin less than six minutes later to give the Mules a 2-0 cushion heading into the first intermission.

Beginning with another O'Connor marker just 40 seconds after the initial face off, the Mules padded their lead by scoring three more times in the second period and finding the back another three times in the third. Spencer Hewson and Zack Hale most notably sent the puck into the nylon on power play opportunities to lift the Mules to their first NESCAC win of the season.

Andrew Tucci earned the shutout victory between the pipes for Colby by making 25 saves. Juniors Connor Rodericks (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and Avery Gobbo (Mississauga, Ontario) split time in net and turned away 11 and 18 shots, respectively.

Connecticut College (2-5-1, NESCAC 0-4-1) will regroup and next host Bowdoin tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
