Hegarty Honored as NESCAC Player of the Week for Camels

NEW LONDON, Conn.--Connecticut College junior attackman Tyler Hegarty of Setauket, N.Y. has been honored as the New England Small College Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week.

Hegarty had six goals and an assist in two wins for the Camels (5-2) this week.
Hegarty erupted with four goals to lead the Camels past Plattsburgh State Wednesday. The fourth scoring strike, assisted by senior James Messina (West Islip, N.Y.) midway through the fourth quarter, proved to be the difference in the contest.
On Saturday, Hegarty scored two more goals and added an assist in a victory against Colby. Hegarty assisted senior JR Hartgers (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) on the eventual game-winner.
Hegarty is leading the club with 15 goals scored and with his two assists, he ranks second on the squad with 17 points.

"I'm proud of the way Tyler has responded this year," Connecticut College Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Dave Cornell said.  "He has upped his commitment level and it has paid dividends.  I think there is still a lot potential left in him."

Hegarty was a three-sport standout at Ward Melville High School on Long Island.

He captained his football and basketball teams and was honored as an All-County selection in basketball and lacrosse.

The Camels will host UMass Dartmouth Tuesday afternoon for a 4:30 p.m. game in New London.
