TROY, N.Y. -- Patrick Finn scored two goals and added four assists, while three other players each recorded three goals apiece, as Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) defeated Connecticut College, 17-3, in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at East Campus Stadium. With the win, the Engineers improve to 4-2 on the season, while the Camels drop to 0-4 overall.
Connecticut College senior Briggs Barton (Rye, N.Y.) moved into a 19th place tie with Dylan DePeter '98 and Dan Hawxhurst '03 on the program's all time scoring list when he netted the 67th goal of his career in the first quarter of play. Rookie face-off midfielder Ben Parens (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) scored his first goal of the season, won 13-of-20 of his battles in the trenches (65%) while adding seven ground balls. Matt Samuelson chipped in with a fourth quarter score.
Both teams used three goalkeepers in the game. RPI's David Gibbs (Stony Brook, N.Y.) earned the win, making 10 saves. Parker Smith (Cordova, Tenn.) and Troy Manchester (Niskayuna, N.Y.) also saw action for the Engineers. Junior Bobby Bleistein (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) finished with 12 saves in the loss and has moved into sixth place on the program's all-time leader list with 418 stops. Matt Andrews (Smithfield, R.I.) and Connor Poetzinger (Boca Raton, Fla.) got time between the pipes for Connecticut College.
The Camels will host Williams College Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. game in New London.
