AMHERST, Mass. – Senior Ben Parens (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) has been named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Academic All-Region Team, as announced by the organization.
Parens was among 46 student-athletes from 20 different NCAA Division III institutions to win the award, which is given to seniors with a cumulative GPA of a 3.0 or better and who have also been nominated by their head coach for all-conference laurels. He is receiving the honor after most recently winning the Anita L. DeFrantz Award as the institution's top male athlete at the athletic department's senior awards banquet over the weekend.
As the Camels' primary faceoff specialist for the fourth straight season, Parens ranked second in the NESCAC in faceoff wins (205) and third in ground balls (120) this past spring to help the program register its highest overall and conference win totals since 2013. The senior, who is the only men's lacrosse player in school history to be named a USILA All-America First Team selection twice, ended his career with 868 faceoff wins to go along with 28 goals, three caused turnovers, and a school-record 475 ground balls. He also made the All-NEILA Second Team earlier this month.
Connecticut College (10-6, NESCAC 5-5) graduates eight seniors and is slated to return more than 30 letterwinners next spring.
