NEW LONDON, Conn.-Kevin O'Brien (Wellesley, Mass.) scored in the 68th minute of action and sophomore keeper Casey Marini (Hampden, Mass.) posted a shutout with six saves as Connecticut College earned a 1-0 NESCAC victory against Bowdoin College in front of 300 fans at Tempel Green Saturday.
The Camels improve to 5-2 with a 3-2 mark in league play, while Bowdoin drops to 3-3-1 with an 0-3-1 record in the NESCAC.
Senior defenders Andrew Lee (Darien, Conn.) and Mike Crosby (Sudbury, Mass.) assisted on the difference making goal.
Oscar Brown (Ridgefield, Conn.) played a critical role in killing clock in the closing minutes and drew a critical foul with two minutes left that allowed the Camels to keep the ball on the offensive side of the field.
Bowdoin College sophomore Will Wise (Cohasset, Mass.) finished with two saves in the setback. First year forward Sam White (Falmouth, Maine) led the visitors offensively with four shots in the contest.
Marini was pleased with the entire team's effort and is looking forward to an exciting month of Camel soccer in October.
"This was a complete effort for us today," Marini said. "We talked about handling set pieces as a unit and we did that effectively. We're confident with what we're doing here and we expect to get results. I'm very comfortable with the play of our back four and they are very confident in my ability to handle the goaltending."
The Camels will be seeking their third straight win when they visit Middlebury tomorrow afternoon for a 2:00 p.m. game in the Green Mountain State. Bowdoin will visit Bates College this Tuesday afternoon for a 4:00 p.m. game in Lewiston, Maine.
