RICHMOND, Ky. – Connecticut College sophomore AJ Marcucci (West Chester, Pa.) has been named to the Google Cloud District II Academic All-America Men's Soccer Team, as announced on Thursday afternoon by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The goalkeeper was chosen to the first team and is now eligible for Academic All-America laurels.
Marcucci, a mathematics major with a concentration in statistics, is being honored for the first time and was also named the 2018 NESCAC Player of the Year today. He ranks among the top five goalkeepers in the country with a .937 save percentage and an 0.26 goals against average and also has 10 shutouts to date this season. In addition, Marcucci is the first player since 2000 to win the league's top rookie and player awards in consecutive seasons.
Off the field, Marcucci is a team representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He also volunteers three hours of his time to the Connecticut College children's program on a weekly basis.
Following today's announcement, Connecticut College has two student-athletes who have made the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team in their respective sport during the 2018-19 academic year. Junior Sara Kogelmann (Guilderland, N.Y.) of the women's soccer program was also recognized for the second straight season this afternoon.
