Men’s Swimming Places Seventh at NESCAC Championships

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Sophomore Jared Nussbaum (Ridgefield, Conn.) broke his second school record in a distance freestyle event as the Connecticut College men's swimming team finished seventh at the NESCAC Championships on Sunday evening.

Williams won the team title by finishing with 1,822 points, while Tufts finished in a close second with 1,775 points. Amherst (1,506), Bowdoin (1,019.50), Bates (878.50), Colby (868), Connecticut College (803.50), Middlebury (589.50), Trinity (444.50), Hamilton (271) and Wesleyan (254) rounded out the team standings.

Nussbaum provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 1,650-yard freestyle by placing fourth in 15:48.86. He also smashed the school record of 16:06.17, which was established by Steen Skaperdas '17 in 2016. Overall, the sophomore registered two NCAA "B" cut times and surpassed two program standards in the three distance freestyle events over the weekend.

Another notable performance on the final day was made by freshman Colin Merrill (Glastonbury, Conn.). He finished eighth in the 200 fly in 1:52.60.

Connecticut College will now wait to see how many swimmers it will send to the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Greensboro, N.C. from March 20-23. The official announcement is scheduled to come out on Monday, March 4 at 8:00 p.m.
