NEW LONDON, Conn.--Will Tucker (London, U.K.) coasted to a 6-2, 6-3 victory at number singles to lead the Connecticut College men's tennis team in a 9-0 blanking of Roger Williams University on the South Tennis Courts Sunday.
"It was great to get the win today and to help the team complete a 9-0 sweep," Tucker said at the conclusion of his final home weekend match on senior day. "I love being a part of this team and couldn't have asked for a better four years with Coach O'Brien and my teammates!"
The Camels evened their record at 5-5, while the Hawks (8-4) had their three match winning streak snapped with the setback.
Junior Josh Suneby (Wellesley, Mass.) posted a 6-4, 7-5 victory at number one singles while classmate JC Cangelosi (Estero, Fla.) earned a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at second singles for the hosts.
Jonathan Kraiger (Springfield, Vt.), Jonathan Deeter (La Quinta, Calif.) and Jonathan Sokolsky (Great Barrington, Mass.) all posted straight set wins for the Camels in their respective slots from #2-5 in the rotation.
Deeter and Kraiger notched an 8-4 victory at number one doubles for the winning side.
Roger Williams University sophomore Eric Bott (Bethel, Conn.) and Jonah Schwartz (Orange, Conn.) dropped a close 9-7 decision to Doug Butturini (Sarasota, Fla.) and Daniel Maffa (Lexington, Mass.) at number three doubles.
