Camels Top Hobart & St. Lawrence, Close Out Spring Trip with Four Match Winning Streak

ORLANDO, Fla.--Seniors Josh Suneby (Wellesley, Mass.) and JC Cangelosi (Estero, Fla.)  are proving to be a formidable duo at the top of the Connecticut College men's tennis line up.

Sunday afternoon, Suneby and Cangelosi were a combined 4-0 in their respective slots at number one and two singles. The Camels (5-3) handed Hobart (4-1) its first loss of the season in a 6-3 victory against the Statesmen. In their final match of the spring trip, the Camels erased a 3-0 deficit en route to their 5-4 thrilling come from behind win against St. Lawrence University (3-3) to extend their winning streak to four.

Suneby and Cangelosi set the tone early by pulling out a critical 9-7 win at #1 doubles in the Hobart Match.  In singles action, Suneby gutted out a victory at number one singles, winning a 10-6 decision in the super tie-breaker. At second singles, Cangelosi notched a 6-2, 7-5 victory for Connecticut College.  Junior Jonathan Deeter (La Quinta, Calif.) earned a 7-6, 6-2 win at third singles while sophomore Daniel Maffa (Lexington, Mass.) recorded a clutch 7-5, 6-4 victory in a close contest at fourth singles.

After dropping all three points in doubles action against the St. Lawrence University Saints, the Camels stormed back by taking the first five match ups in singles action.  Suneby posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory at first singles while Cangelosi took care of business with a convincing 6-1, 6-3 triumph at number two. Junior Jonathan Kraiger (Springfield, Vt.) earned a 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) victory at third singles for the Camels.

Deeter checked in with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at fourth singles. Maffa grinded was able to hold on for the win at fifth singles, outlasting his foe with an 11-9 triumph in the super tie-breaker.

 Suneby wrapped up the week with a perfect 6-0 record at first singles.
