Men’s Tennis Beats Coast Guard, 5-4

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior Ben Sachs (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) and junior Will Cannon (Fairfield, Conn.) each captured their singles matches and teamed up for another win at the top doubles spot in leading the Connecticut College men's tennis program to a 5-4 victory over Coast Guard on Thursday evening.

The entire match was tightly contested with four of the singles matches extending to three sets and all of doubles play being decided by two points. Freshman SangJin Song (Roslyn, N.Y.) earned the fifth and deciding point for the overall win at No. 5 singles, defeating Coast Guard's Adam Bahney by set scores of 6-7, 6-1, and 6-3. Cannon also outlasted his opponent at No. 2 singles by marks of 7-5, 4-6 and 6-4.

In doubles action, Sachs and Cannon earned an 8-5 victory over Kyle Fager and Chris Lansing at the No. 1 position. Freshman Henry DeCoster (Greenwich, Conn.) and junior Charlie Williams (Mercer Island, Wash.) were also triumphant, bettering Mike Melampy and Jack Phillips by a 9-7 count from the No. 2 spot.

Connecticut College (1-2) will next face No. 2-ranked Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
