LeDuc Repeats as New England Division III Champion in 5000 Meters

WATERVILLE, Maine.--Junior All-American Mike LeDuc (Canton, Conn.) posted a time of 14:30.03 to win the New England Division Championship in the 5000 meters for the second consecutive year.

LeDuc's time shattered a facility record at Colby College that had stood for more than two decades.  Trent Murrell of Augustana College was the previous record holder with his time of 14:36.78 set back in 1992. The winning time also vaults LeDuc up to 11th place on the NCAA performance list.

In the 4x800 meter relay, senior Matt Boudreau (Bridgewater, Mass.), Andrew Duarte (Rocky Hill, Conn.), Ian Rathkey (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Tristan Cole (St. Helen, Calif.) joined forces for a sixth place finish with a time of 7:53.28.

The five aforementioned Camels are all honored as All-New England Division III honorees. Connecticut College scored 13 points in the two events to place 19th out of the 26 teams that scored this weekend.

The Camels also had some other strong performances that did not register on the scoreboard. Tristan Cole qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship in the 1500 meters, with a personal record setting time of 3:56.83.

Sophomore Patrick Dermody (Erieville, N.Y.) set a personal record in the 10000 meters with a time of 32:32:13 in an 11th place scoring for the Camels. Tim Murtagh (Rowley, Mass.) posted a time of 34.19.43 to finish behind Dermody in the 10000.

Mike Joyce (Wallingford, Conn.) checked in with a time of 10:24.23 in the 3000 meter steeplechase.

Devon Latrell (West Newbury, Mass.) threw the javelin 161 feet, seven inches for the Camels.
