Fischetti, DiMartino Lead Camels with 2nd and 3rd Place Finishes in Decathlon at Silfen Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn.--Connecticut College senior Nick Fischetti (Groton, Mass.) scored 5198 points en route to his second place finish in the decathlon at the Silfen Invitational this weekend. Fischetti has provisionally qualified for the ECAC Championship.

Freshman Austin DiMartino (West Haven, Conn.) scored 4841 points to place third behind Fischetti, provisionally qualifying for the ECAC Championship with his performance.

The Camels scored 68 points to finish in a tie for fourth place with Stevens Tech.  There were 19 teams in the field of competition.

Junior Alejandro Hernandez (Miami, Fla.), a 2015 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar, posted a time of 33:14.14 to place fourth in the 10,000 meter run. Hernandez qualified for the upcoming New England Division III Championship. Freshman Kyle Hawk (Napa, Calif.) placed fifth behind Hernandez in the 10k with a time of 33:22.19.  Classmate Russell Adam (Cheshire, Conn.) took seventh for the Camels in 33:55.10.

Sophomore Connor Trapp (Wilmette, Ill.) posted a time of 1:55.63 to finish fifth in the 800 meter run, qualifying for the New England Division III Championship along the way. Junior Ben Bosworth (Dorchester, Mass.) took eighth place in the 5000 meters, earning invitations to the ECAC as well as the New England Division III Championship with a time of 14:38.07. In the 1500 meters, senior Niall Williams had his ticket punched for the two aforementioned championships with a time of 3:59.69 in a 10th place showing for the Camels. Rookie runner Price Day (Harvard, Mass.) placed 11th behind Williams with a time of 4:00.08 to earn his invitation to the New England Division III Championship.

In the triple jump, Chris Conner (Glastonbury, Conn.) covered a distance of 41 feet, eight and one half of an inch to finish in sixth place for Connecticut College. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Raymond Rich Fiondella (North Haven, Conn.) earned an invitation to the New England Division III Championship with a time of 9:59.07, placing fifth for the Camels. Senior Dan Gossels (Sudbury, Mass.) was seventh in the steeplechase with a time of 10:17.22.

Christian Whitaker (Dolton, Ill.) posted a time of 22.75 seconds in the 200 meter dash to earn his invitation to the New England Division III Championship.

All of these aforementioned marks qualified for the upcoming NESCAC Championship that will be hosted by Amherst College April 30.

Other NESCAC qualifying marks include: Fischetti and DiMartino in the 100 meter dash (11.74 and 11.80 seconds), Andrew Peterson (Wallingford, Conn.) in the 400 meter dash (52.15 seconds), Ryan Dean (Leeds, Mass.) and Sam McKeown (South Windsor, Conn.) in the 800 (2:02.12 and 2:02.46), Fischetti and DiMartino in the high jump (both finished with the identical same mark of five feet, eight inches), Conner and Fischetti in the long jump (19 feet, one half of an inch and 18 feet, six inches). Additional NESCAC qualifiers included freshman Mike D'Onofrio (East Haven, Conn.) and Fischetti in the javelin with respective throws of 150 feet, four and half of an inch and 135 feet, seven and one half of an inch.

In the 4x400 meter relay, the Camel quartet comprised of Blake O'Neal (Houston, Texas), Whitaker, Arlo Siegel (Florence, Mass.) and Peterson cruised to a fifth place finish in 3:28.74.

The following Camels are on the national performance lists right now. Bosworth is ranked in the 1500 and 5000 meters. Fischetti and DiMartino are ranked in the decathlon.
