NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--Connecticut College freshman Danny Aschale (Cambridge, Mass.) posted a time of 4:24.22 to win the one-mile run at the Smith College Invitational today. Aschale earned an invitation to the New England Division III Championship with his superlative performance.
The Camels scored 92 points to place third in the eight team field of competition.
Freshman Sean Soucy (Falmouth, Maine) won the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:22.81 for Connecticut College. In the 4x200 meter relay, the Camel quartet comprised of Blake O'Neal (Houston, Texas), Arlo Siegel (Florence, Mass.), Andrew Peterson (Wallingford, Conn.) and Geoff Pendergast (Weston, Mass.) cruised to victory in 1:36.32.
Aschale, Jacob Brill-Weil (Cambridge, Mass.), Christian Carr-Locke (Walpole, Mass.) and Scott Mason (Wyndmoor, Pa.) placed 2nd in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 8:11.17. Junior Jordan Comeau (Winchendon, Mass.) and senior Ben Bosworth (Dorchester, Mass.) turned in third place finishes in Western Mass. today. Comeau posted a time of 2:03.21 in the 800 meter run while Bosworth clocked out with a time of 8:39.49 in the 3000 meters.
Fourth place finishes included Mason's performance in the one-mile run (4:26.64) as well as Peterson's showing in the 600 meter dash (1:25.61). Austin DiMartino (West Haven, Conn.) took fourth place in the pole vault, reaching his apex at 10 feet, six inches. Pendergast was fourth in the triple jump today, covering a distance of 38 feet, six and one quarter of an inch for the Camels.
