Men’s Track & Field Begins Outdoor Campaign at Golden Ram Invitational

Ian McAleer

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Sophomore Ian McAleer (Newfields, N.H.) factored into a pair of winning performances to lead the Connecticut College men's track & field team at the Golden Ram Invitational and the program's first outdoor meet of the season on Saturday.

McAleer won the 100-meter dash by punching in a collegiate-best time of 11.25 seconds, which qualified the sprinter for the New England Division III Championships and moved him up to second on the program's all-time performance list. In addition, he anchored the victorious 4x100-meter relay team that circled the track in 44.54 seconds. The group also included junior Jake Beloin (Cheshire, Conn.) as well as freshmen Sebastian Cox (Washington, D.C.) and Matt Sambor (Longmeadow, Mass.).

Other notable efforts were made by senior Mike D'Onofrio (East Haven, Conn.) and freshman Ben Vazquez (Millington, N.J.). D'Onofrio qualified for the New England Division III Championships by winning the javelin throw with a mark of 168-feet, 5-inches, while Vazquez cruised to the individual crown in the 1,500-meter run by crossing the line in 4:07.43 and bettering the rest of the field by more than four seconds.

Connecticut College will next trek to Tufts to compete at the Snowflake Classic on Saturday, March 30.
