NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's water polo team dropped its season opener to MIT by a 14-7 score on Saturday afternoon.
The Camels were competitive in the opening half and got on the board first when freshman Lucas Verilli (Evanston, Ill.) found the back of the net. After the Engineers tied it up, junior Tim Beloborodov (Moscow, Russia) gave the hosts a 2-1 lead through the first quarter.
MIT, however, rattled off nine of the next 10 goals and never looked back. The visitors cruised to a 10-3 advantage through three quarters and never let the Camels come any closer.
Connecticut College (0-1), which got a hat trick from junior Rahul Gill (Bethesda, Md.) in the contest, will next visit Brown on Friday, Sept. 14 at 5:30 p.m.
