NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Connecticut College coed sailing team co-hosted the Thompson Trophy Regatta with the Coast Guard on the Thames River this weekend.
It was a great weekend for the Camels, who placed sixth in the 18 team field with a score of 329 points. Yale University scored 190 points to win the regatta and was followed by MIT (255), College of Charleston (256), Georgetown (311) and Stanford University, who finished one point ahead of the Camels in fifth place with a score of 328 points.
The Camels showcased their new full color sails for fans and friends of the program. Junior skippers Hugh MacGillivray (Portsmouth, R.I.) and Walt Florio (Rye, N.Y.) along with senior Eliza Garry (Marblehead, Mass.) and Erin Smith (Hanover, Mass.) placed ninth in the A division with a score of 121 points. In the B division, rookie skipper Carter Pemberton (Osterville, Mass.) and Sam Rodiger (Hingham, Mass.) rallied the Camels with a score of 78 points en route to their impressive third place finish.
In the C division, junior skippers Allie Maurillo (Shelter Island, N.Y.) and Charlotte List (Fair Haven, N.J.) along with senior skipper Cooper Nefsky (New York, N.Y.) were joined by Paige Dunlevy (San Francisco, Calif.), Gwynie Dunlevy (San Francisco, Calif.), Katie Rodger (Marblehead, Mass.) and Cecilia Moreira (Winthrop, Mass.) as the crew. Connecticut College won a tie-breaker with Tufts to place 11th in this division with a score of 130 points.
