Coed Sailing Qualifies for New England Championships With Victory at Staake Team Race

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College coed sailing team qualified for the upcoming New England Championships which it will be hosting in two weeks by winning the Staake Team Race on the Thames River over the weekend.

Led by skippers Hugh MacGillivray (Portsmouth, R.I.), Walter Florio (Rye, Fla.) and Carter Pemberton (Osterville, Mass.), the Camels registered a 19-1 record over four head-to-head rounds with their only loss coming to Coast Guard. Other student-athletes who contributed to the team's success included Liz Davis (Naples, Fla.), Gwynie Dunlevy (San Francisco, Calif.), Albert Rodiger (Marblehead, Mass.), Erin Smith (Hanover, Mass.) and Cecilia Moreira (Winthrop, Mass.).

After racing at MIT next weekend, the coed team will be among 12 squads which will sail head-to-head at the New England Championships being hosted by Connecticut College on Apr. 7-8. The top four finishers will be awarded a berth to compete at the ICSA National Championships at Old Dominion University in Virginia at the end of May.
