Sailing Teams Begin Spring Season With Fourth-Place Finishes at Two Regattas

Sailing Spring Regattas

The Connecticut College sailing programs began the spring season with fourth-place finishes at a pair of regattas over the weekend.

The women's team competed at the Rhody the Riveter Regatta in Rhode Island. Sailing out of the B Division, freshmen Ana Clarkson (Seattle, Wash.) and Alex Wagner (Southport, Conn.) finished fifth among 16 pairs overall to pace the Camels.

The coed program, meanwhile, stayed in New London to race at the Hap Moore Regatta which was being hosted by neighboring Coast Guard. Skippers Carter Pemberton (Osterville, Mass.), Gordon Gurnell (Old Saybrook, Conn.), CJ McKenna (Harwich, Mass.), and Tommy Whittemore (West Hartford, Conn.) led the way in the first and only round that was called early due to high winds delaying the races in the middle of the afternoon.

The Connecticut College sailing programs will head south over the first weekend of spring break. The women will race at Navy, while the coed team will compete at Eckerd in St. Petersburg, Fla.
