PURCHASE, N.Y.--Junior forward Mairead Hynes (Mahopac, N.Y.) had 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three blocks, connecting on 6-of-9 shots from the field to lead the Connecticut College women's basketball team to a 72-52 victory against Manhattanville College in the Championship Game of the Manhattanville College Tip-Off Today.
The Camels improved their record to 2-0 with the win, while the hosts fell to 2-1 in the early season.
Sophomore Kylie Caouette (Ashburnham, Mass.) chipped in with 11 points for the Camels and was recognized as the weekend's Most Valuable Player. Hynes was all also honored on the All-Tournament Team.
Sophomore Payton Ouimette (Medfield, Mass.) contributed with 13 points and 12 rebounds en route to a double-double. Samantha Ashton (Clinton, Conn.) added 10 points, five assists and four rebounds for the Camels.
The Valiants kept it close in the opening quarter and were down 15-10 after one. But in the second quarter, the Camels out-scored the hosts 21-6 to take control with a 36-16 advantage at the break.
Sophomore Meg Corcoran (Milton, Mass.) stepped off the bench to contribute with six points and seven rebounds.
The Camels will visit Western Connecticut State University Tuesday for an 8:00 p.m. game in Danbury, Conn.
