BOSTON, Mass.—UMass-Boston scored goals in each of the first two periods to defeat the Connecticut College women's hockey team 2-0 in the championship game of the Seventh Annual Codfish Bowl hosted by the Beacons in Boston Friday night.
The Beacons extend their unbeaten streak to five games, improving their mark to 5-6. The Camels had their four game-winning streak snapped in the setback, falling to 5-4-2.
Sophomore forward Samantha Fallon (Pembroke, Mass.) scored a power-play goal at 7:32 of the opening period. Junior Jess Salisbury (North Smithfield, R.I.) contributed a score at 12:06 of the middle period. Katie Loiselle (Glocester, R.I.) assisted on both scores for the Beacons.
Casey Schaejbe (Arlington, Mass.) collected 13 of her 29 saves in the third period en route to her second shutout of the season. Kelsie Fralick (West Chester, Pa.) stopped 22 shots in goal for the Camels.
Connecticut College held a 29-to-26 advantage in shots.
Fralick and Jane Pagano (Erie, Pa.) were named to the All-Tournament Team for the Camels. Pagano scored twice in Thursday's 4-1 victory against Neumann University. Fralick stopped 50 of 53 shots for Connecticut College.
Fallon was honored as the Most Valuable Player for the Beacons. She was joined on the squad by teammates Alyssa Sullivan (Medford, Mass.) and Casey Schaejbe. Neumann's Edie Brenning (Greely, Ont.) and Stevenson's Megan Donahue (Levittown, Pa.) were also named to the squad.
The Camels will host Bowdoin College Friday night for a 7:00 p.m. game in Dayton Arena.
Senior captain Olivia Farrell (New York, N.Y.) has accounted for five goals and three assists to lead the club with eight points. Fralick has registered a1.35 goals against average with a .950 save percentage in eight starts in goal, stopping 207 of 218 shots for the Camels.
