#8 Amherst College 3, Connecticut College 1 Izzi Nets Team-Leading Ninth Score of Season for Camels

AMHERST, Mass. -- Brenna Sullivan '18 scored a pair of goals to help lift the No. 8 Amherst College women's hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Connecticut College in Saturday evening's NESCAC contest at Orr Rink.

With the win, Amherst improves to 12-1-3 overall, 7-0-2 in NESCAC action. Connecticut College moves to 10-6-3 on the season, 5-4-2 in NESCAC play. The teams will square off again Sunday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m. at Orr Rink. Sunday's contest also marks the third annual "Pink in the Rink" fundraiser. Fans are encouraged to donate and wear pink to the game.

In an evenly contested first period of action, Amherst netted the game's first goal at the 18:49 mark when Sullivan beat Connecticut College goalie Kelsie Fralick for her seventh goal of the season. Lynndy Smith '17 brought the puck into the offensive zone, dished to Emily Flom '15 who tapped it to Sullivan for the goal to give the Jeffs a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.

The second period saw Amherst stake a 19-9 shot differential but Fralick was stellar between the posts, turning aside each of the Jeffs' offerings. At the 8:26 mark of the stanza, Stephanie Izzi scored a breakaway unassisted power play goal to knot the game at 1-1. The Purple & White had a sensational opportunity to regain the lead when assistant captain Tori Salmon '15 slid a pass through the top of the Camels' crease to Alex Toupal '18, but she could not control it and the score remained tied at 1-1 after 40 minutes of action.

After neither side was able to capitalize on a pair of extra-man opportunities awarded to their teams, Sullivan scored a beautiful breakaway goal at the 17:22 mark after Flom delivered the puck to her from Amherst's defensive zone. Less than two minutes later, with Fralick pulled in favor of an extra skater, Toupal scored an empty-net goal following assists from Salmon and Emma Griese '18 to set the final score at 3-1.

Salmon, Eileen Harris '16, Caitlyn Ryan '17 and Erin Martin '16 each finished with five shots on goal for the Jeffs; while Leigh Getz led Connecticut College with five shots on frame. Izzi, Julie Beattie and Ashley Anctil followed with four shots on goal.

Sabrina Dobbins (6-0-2) was terrific between the pipes for the Purple & White, making 30 saves on 31 shots, including 12 in the final period. Fralick (7-4-2) finished with 35 saves in the losing effort, highlighted by 19 in the second session.
