PAWTUCKET, R.I.—Elena Gualtieri (Rome, N.Y.) scored two goals and assisted on three others to lead the Connecticut College women's hockey team in a 10-0 victory against Johnson & Wales University in a non-conference game played in Pawtucket Sunday.
The Camels improved their record to 1-2 with the win. The Wildcats fell to 0-10 but are making progress in their first year of action at the NCAA Division III level.
Kelley Potter (Groton, Mass.) contributed a goal and three assists en route to her four point output. Junior Julie Beattie (Livonia, Mich.) and Paige Michel (Essex, Conn.) both finished with a goal and two assists. Juniors Steph Izzi (West Cornwall, Conn.) and Ashley Anctil (Manchester, N.H.) both had a goal and an assist in the victory.
Kami Weiner (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) made 23 saves in the opening period of play for the Wildcats. Chelsey Shaw (Dover, N.H.) stopped 21 shots over the final two periods of action for JWU.
Izzi opened the scored with 14:21 remaining in the first period when she took a pass from Beattie and slipped a wrist shot past Weiner for the Camels.
The Camels scored their next three goals in a 4:18 span of the first to take control of the contest. Katlyn Paiva (Rehoboth, Mass.) was able to re-direct Kate Kohl's (Chelmsford, Mass.) slap shot for a score with 8:23 remaining in the first. Just 1:18 later the Camels were on the board with their third goal when Michel buried a slap shot from just above the left circle.
With 4:05 remaining in the opening period, Lily Connolly (Duxbury, Mass.) stuffed in a rebound of Gualtieri's shot and the Camels carried the 4-0 lead into the break.
In the middle period, the Camels tacked on two more goals. Potter buried a slap shot from the mid-slot area with 11:06 remaining. Then, with 8:08 to play in the second, Jill Dahrooge (Charlton, Mass.) tipped in a rebound after Potter's initial shot was saved.
The Camels added four more goals in the third period to close out the 10-0 win.
