NEW LONDON, Conn.—Julie Beattie (Livonia, Mich.) and Lily Connolly (Duxbury, Mass.) scored third period goals while junior Katherine Chester (Mendham, N.J.) added 18 saves in her third consecutive shutout to lead the Connecticut College women's hockey team in a 2-0 blanking of Wesleyan University at Dayton Arena Friday night.
The Camels improved their record to 6-5-1 while evening their NESCAC record at 3-3-1. The Cardinals slipped to 3-8 overall and are 1-4 in conference play.
Senior net-minder Corinne Rivard (Glendale, Ariz.) stopped 33 of the 34 shots she faced in an impressive performance between the pipes for the visitors.
After two scoreless periods, the Camels finally broke through with 14:05 remaining in regulation on their power play. Steph Izzi (West Cornwall, Conn.) won a face-off to Jordan Cross (Saugus, Mass.) who cycled the puck back to the point for Beattie, who unloaded with a slap shot from the point that found the back of the net.
The Cardinals emptied their net late but Camel junior Michaela Igo (Sandwich, Mass.) was able to win a battle for a puck and assist Connolly for an empty netter with 30 seconds left to close out the victory. Beattie earned the second assist on the marker.
Connecticut College enjoyed a 35-to-19 advantage on the shot chart.
The two teams will wrap up their weekend series here tomorrow for a 3:00 p.m. game in New London.
