AMHERST, Mass.—Ashley Anctil (Manchester, N.H.) potted a second period goal while senior net-minder Katherine Chester (Mendham, N.J.) turned aside 30 shots in goal to lead the Connecticut College women's hockey team to a season opening 1-0 victory against seventh ranked Amherst College Friday night in Western Massachusetts.
Chester and the Camels were a perfect 7-for-7 in penalty killing situations. They were able to overcome adversity in a wild third period that saw the visitors penalized on four different occasions. The Purple and White even enjoyed a two-women advantage for 58 seconds but could not solve Chester, who made 25 of her stops over the final two periods of play en route to the ninth blanking of her prolific playing career.
Anctil scored the 24th goal of her career 4:30 into the second period of play. Senior Cassie Hunter (Gilford, N.H.) and junior Lily Connolly (Duxbury, Mass.) assisted on the difference making tally for the Camels.
Senior Sabrina Dobbins (New Castle, N.H.) was the hard luck loser for the hosts in Purple and White, finishing with 26 saves on 27 Camels shots.
