Camels Win Silver Medals in Varsity Four & Novice Eight Regattas at the Head of the Snake Regatta

WORCESTER, Mass.--October 15, 2016 – The Women's Rowing Program raced at the Head of the Snake on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, MA – the first race of the 2016-2017 academic year.  The women earned silver medals in two events.  Twenty-nine women represented the College at the event during Home Coming Weekend for the Camels.   

The Women's Varsity Four of coxswain Marisa Gildea, stroke Isabelle Smith, three seat Maddy Fenderson, two seat Amelia DeFrancis and bow Megan Murray placed second out of 17 in 17:52 to the University of New Hampshire's 17:07.  The Camels were followed by crews from Bowdoin College, Trinity College and Smith College. The Second Varsity Four of coxswain Annie DiLisio, stroke Kelsey Fischer, three seat Sarah Stephenson, two seat Martha Willey and bow Gavriella King placed 6th.   Third Varsity Four of coxswain Joyce Welch, stroke Caroline Kuzoian, three seat Sarah Spound, two seat Julia Vitagliano, and bow Beckie Duseau placed 10th.   Fourth Varsity Four of coxswain Mckenzie Griffiths Potter, stroke Emily Senator, three seat Madeline Brewer, two seat Emily Caron, and bow Megan Gummer placed 13th

In the Women's Novice Eight event the Camels finished second out of 16 with a time of 16:59 to winner University of Vermont's time of 16:23.  The crew is comprised of women who began their rowing careers six weeks ago at the College, the exception being coxswain Anna Jeffers.  Representing the Camels: stroke Emma Gutheinz, seven seat Emily Fryer, six seat Isabelle Cookson, five seat Shelby Purdum, four seat Mikayla Waterhouse, three seat Anne Laprise, two seat Ashley Dillon, bow Elly Gluschke and coxswain Anna Jeffers.  The crew finished second followed by crews from WPI, UNH, Colby and Smith College. 
 
Next weekend the Camels will race at the 52nd Head of the Charles in Boston, MA in the Women's Collegiate Four Event on Sunday October 23.
