#10 Amherst College 2, Connecticut College 1 Camels to Clash with Williams in Program's First NESCAC Berth Since 2007
NEW LONDON, Conn.--Kathryn Nathan (Pembroke, Mass.) and Megan Kim (Newport Beach, Calif.) scored first half goals to lead the Amherst College women's soccer team to a 2-1 win at Connecticut College Wednesday.
With the win, the 10th ranked Lord Jeffs improve their mark to 12-1-1 and are 8-1-1 in the NESCAC. The Camels had their four game unbeaten streak snapped and are 5-7-2 with a 3-7 record in conference action.
Both teams will be playing quarterfinal games in the 2012 NESCAC Championship this Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Third seeded Amherst will host Colby while the Head Coach Norm Riker's seventh seeded Connecticut College Camels will make their first appearance in the tournament since 2007 when they visit second seeded Williams College.
Rebecca Raymond (Lowell, Mass.) scored her second goal of the season in the 55th minute of action to keep the game close.
Nathan opened the scoring at the 10 minute mark when she finished on an assisting pass from Kate Sisk (Sudbury, Mass.). In the 21st minute of action, Kim caromed one into the net off of the crossbar to double the visitor's advantage.
The Camels played a much tighter second half and were out-shot 10-to-6 in the stanza.
Kirsten Manville (Fairfax, Va.) made three saves down the stretch to keep the game close. Amy Lowitt (Baltimore, Md.) recorded three saves in 33 minutes of action. Natalie Signor (Glastonbury, Conn.) logged the opening 25 minutes of action for the hosts.
Holly Burwick (New Canaan, Conn.) went the distance for the visitors, making one save in the triumph.
Prior to kickoff, Connecticut College Head Coach Norm Riker honored his four seniors: Tori Frank (Fall River, Mass.), Amy Lowitt (Baltimore, Md.), Kirsten Manville and Ali McKeigue (Arlington, Mass.).
