NEW LONDON, Conn.--Molly Popolizio (Rexford, N.Y.) scored in the 64th minute of play to lead the Bowdoin College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory against Connecticut College in front of 600 fans on Tempel Green.
The Polar Bears improve their record to 9-2-1 with a 5-2-1 mark in the NESCAC, while the Camels fall to 3-5-3 with a 1-4-2 record in conference action.
Bowdoin opened the scoring in the 13th minute of action. Kiersten Turner (Gorham, Maine) buried a 16 yard blast for her team leading ninth goal of the season. Becky Stoneman (Faribault, Minn.) assisted on the marker.
Bowdoin continued to pressure but some solid defensive play from Amanda Onofrio (Greenwich, Conn.) helped keep this a one-goal deficit in the first stanza.
In the 62nd minute of play, the Camels executed on a set piece to pull even with the visitors. Rebecca Raymond (Lowell, Mass.) delivered a corner from the left side. Annie Higgins (West Hartford, Conn.) controlled the ball and made a one-touch pass to Abby Fagan (Westport, Conn.) who played the ball back to Morgan Cowie-Haskell (Marshfield, Mass.), who applied the finishing touches for the goal in the center of the box at the six yard line.
But Bowdoin bounced back and just 2:31 later, the visitors took the lead for good. Kaley Nelson (Vienna, Va.) sent a cross toward the near post from the right side and Popolizio was able to meet the ball in a full sprint and knock in what proved to be the game-winner.
Bridget McCarthy (Hopkinton, Mass.) stopped three shots to earn the victory for the visitors. Casey Krause (Berkley Heights, N.J.) played the final 20 minutes of the contest for the Polar Bears.
Natalie Signor (Glastonbury, Conn.) made four saves in the loss for the Camels.
Shots were even at 10 aside. The Camels held a slim 5-to-4 edge on corner kicks.
