LEWISTON, Maine.--Michelle Medina (Hartford, Conn.) scored a goal in each half to lead the Connecticut College women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory at Bates College Saturday.
The Camels, ranked #6 in the latest NSCAA Regional Ranking, improved to 8-1 with a 3-1 record in conference play. The Bobcats suffered their first home loss of the season, falling to 6-4 with a 3-4 mark in the NESCAC.
The Camels opened the scoring in the 24th minute of play. Mackenzie Kingston (Charlotte, Vt.) delivered a cross into the middle of the box. Astrid Kempainen (Chazy, N.Y.) controlled it to Medina who found the back of the netting for her third goal of the season.
Medina tacked on an insurance marker in the 61st minute with Livi Block (New York, N.Y.) and Kempainen providing assists.
Kempainen leads the team with seven assists and 15 points.
Bryanna Montalvo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) made two saves en route to her fifth shutout for the season for the Camels.
Rookie net-minder Sarah McCarthy (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made eight of her 11 saves in the second stanza to keep the game close for the Bobcats.
Ana Urbina (Bow, N.H.) and Hannah Behringer (Old Lyme, Conn.) accounted for the Bobcats' shots on goal.
Connecticut College enjoyed a 22-to-4 advantage in shots and an 11-to-2 edge in corner kicks.
They have now out-scored their opposition 29-to-5 through the first nine games of the 2014 season.
The Camels will return home to New London to host Tufts University this Saturday for a noon-time NESCAC matchup.
Bates will resume play this Thursday when they visit the University of New England for a 6:30 p.m. game in Biddeford, Maine.
