POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.--The Connecticut College women's tennis team visited the Empire State of New York to compete in the Vassar College Scramble this weekend.
In Saturday's action, sophomore Mariah Warren (McLeansville, N.C.) won her super tie-breaker in a 10-8 victory against Ayesha Das (Marietta, Ga.) of New York University. Sophomore Brinley Bartlett (Rochester, N.Y.) secured a 6-3, 6-2 victory against junior Lauren Difazio (Greenlawn, N.Y.) of Vassar. First year hitter Rachel Weiss notched a 6-4, 6-4 straight set win against Vassar freshman Ashley Fair (Laguna Beach, Calif.).
In the second round, Bartlett battled back to take a 5-7, 6-3, 10-6 win for the Camels in a match up against Vista Grinde (Virginia Beach, Va.) of Vassar. In doubles action, Catherine Rockett (Needham, Mass.) and Rachel Weiss (Great Neck, N.Y.) posted a victory against Vassar junior Dasha Ivenitsky (South Salem, N.Y.) and Morgane Flournoy (Grosse Pointe, Mich.), 8-5. Sophomore Emily Migliorini (North Haven, Conn.) and Bartlett joined forces in an 8-3 triumph over Nikki Ong (Manila, Phillipines) and Das, 8-3.
In Sunday's doubles action, Mariah and Angelica Warren knocked off Kirsten Del Vecchio (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) and Taylor Mormile (Orangeburg, N.Y.) of SUNY New Paltz in an 8-3 win. Migliorini and Bartlett coasted to an 8-3 triumph against Cielle Pappalardo (Sayville, N.Y.) and Rica Coelho (Plainview, N.Y.) of New Paltz.
In the second round of doubles play today, senior Adrienne Sieverding (Red Hook, N.Y.) and Stephanie Simon (Wellesley, Mass.) earned a 9-7 win against New Paltz's Olivia Ammirati (Huntington, N.Y.) and junior Emi Lewis (New York, N.Y.). Freshman Elena Erdekian (Wayland, Mass.) and Alexandra Waldman (East Hampton, N.Y.) knocked off New Paltz's Pappalardo and Coelho. Jillian Brigandi (Harrington Park, N.Y.) and Hayley Zukerburg (Newton, Mass.) secured a victory against Delvecchio and Mormile of New Paltz.
In the third round of action, the Warren sisters knocked off Brittany Grandville (Tappan, New York) and Carol Tyson (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) of New Paltz. Migliorni and Bartlett joined forces in a win against Delvecchio and Mormile. Brigandi and Zukerburg topped Pappalardo and Coelho of New Paltz.
