Curran Post Victory in 3000 Meters for Camels at Tufts Cupid Challenge

MEDFORD, Mass.--Connecticut College junior Ashley Curran (pictured, Franklin, Mass.) posted a time of 10:06.76 as the top collegiate finisher (2nd including unattached runners) in the 3000 meter run at the Tufts University Cupid Challenge Saturday.

With the performance, Curran catapulted all the way up to 11th place on the NCAA performance list, earning invitations to the New England Division III, Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and All-New England Championships along the way.

In the one-mile run, junior Bella Franz (Water Mill, N.Y.) set a school record with a time of 4:58.68 for the Camels, besting Kim Bolick's '15 mark of 4:59.34 that was established in 2013. Franz was the fourth collegiate finisher (5th overall including unattached runners). She moved all the way up to sixth place on the NCAA performance list. She qualified for all three of the aforementioned championships with her performance.

Senior Lauren Kennedy (Longmeadow, Mass.) threw the shot put 35 feet, three and three quarters of an inch in a fifth place showing for the Camels.

Emily Senatore (Norwell, Mass.) covered a distance of 39 feet, 10 inches to place seventh in the weight throw for Connecticut College.

The Camels placed eighth in two events. Freshman Ivana Lamptey posted a time of 8.38 seconds in the 60 meter dash time trials and logged a time of 8.42 seconds in the finals.  In the 600 meter run Gianna Rocchio (Coventry, R.I). logged a time of 1:44.50 for Connecticut College.

In the 4x800 meter relay, the Camel quartet comprised of Haley Sykes (Foxboro, Mass.), Caroline Leonard (Hingham, Mass.), Eva Brydson (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and Franz cruised to a second place finish, earning an invitation to the ECAC Championship with a time of 9:57.94.

Senior Tori Kenyon (Plymouth, Mass.), Rocchio, Ashley Bjorkman (Mansfield, Mass.) and Lamptey posted a time of 1:53.68 en route to their third place showing in the 4x200 meter relay.

In the 4x400 meter relay, Casey Sullivan (Beijing, China), Anna Guay (Watertown, Conn.), Caitlin Teare (Yarmouth, Maine) and Mimi Crawford (Allentown, N.J.)  placed fifth for the Camels with a time of 4:38.99.

Sophomore Grace Sheeran (Medina, Wash.) earned an invitation to the New England Division III Championship in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:44.24.
