BRUNSWICK, Maine--Connecticut College senior Bella Franz (Water Mill, N.Y.) posted a time of 5:10.03 to win the one-mile run at the Bowdoin College Invitational Saturday. Franz catapulted all the way up to 10th place on the national performance list with her performance. She has earned an invitation to the upcoming New England Division III Championship that will be hosted by MIT February 18.
The Camels scored 118 points to place third in the eight team field. Taryn Gangi (Methuen, Mass.) covered a distance of 34 feet, seven inches to win the triple jump for Connecticut College. Gangi had already qualified for the New England Division III Championship. She has vaulted her way into the 49th place on the national performance list for the Camels.
In the 60 meter dash, Gangi set a personal record with a second place finish in :08.08 seconds. She had already qualified for the New England Division III Championship. Sophomore Shannon Kennedy (East Longmeadow, Mass.) set a school record in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing second and qualifying for the aforementioned New England Division III Championship with a time of :09.75 seconds.
Senior Lauren Kennedy (East Longmeadow, Mass.) set a school record of her own, placing second in the shot put with a throw that covered 39 feet, five and one quarter of an inch. Freshman Alicia Palmer (Bloomfield, Conn.) set a personal record in the 400 meter dash, placing second for the Camels with a time of 1:03.46. In the 4x400 meter relay, Palmer, Shannon Kennedy, Leila Alfaro (Charleston, S.C.) and Franz posted a time of 4:24.44 in a second place scoring for the Camels. Alfaro set a personal record in the relay with a time of 1:05.88 for the Camels.
The Camels had five third place finishes at Bowdoin. Senior Ashley Bjorkman (Mansfield, Mass.) clocked out with a time of 1:04.83 in the 400 meter dash. Sophomore Caitlin Teare (Yarmouth, Maine), senior Anna Guay (Watertown, Conn.), junior Micaela Nee (Hanover, Mass.) and sophomore Eva Brydson (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) placed third in the 4x800 meter relay, with a season-best time of 10:38.47. Teare (2:31.41) and Nee (2:43.93) both set personal records in this event for the Camels.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Thomas (Orange, Conn.) was third in the triple jump with a mark of 28 feet, two and one quarter of an inch. Koko Mensah (Orange, N.J.) placed third behind Lauren Kennedy in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 11 inches. Sophomore Emily Senatore (Hanover, Mass.) set a personal record in the weight throw, covering a distance of 42 feet, eight inches in another third place showing for Connecticut College
