NEW LONDON, Conn.--Connecticut College senior setter Katie Ketcham of San Francisco, Calif. has been honored as the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Volleyball Player of the Week.
Ketcham paced the Camels to a four match sweep and a perfect 12-0 record in games at the Johnson & Wales University Invitational. Ketcham averaged 10.25 kills, 1.83 digs and .50 kills over the weekend.
In the Championship match against Springfield College, Ketcham had 35 assists and three kills to lead the Camels to the victory.
Springfield College was ranked 21st in the American Volleyball Coaches Association preseason poll and reached the NCAA Elite 8 last year.
Connecticut College Head Volleyball Coach Josh Edmed was pleased with Ketcham's performance in the opening weekend of action.
"Katie did a nice job of spreading out our offense this past weekend," Edmed said. "We were strong with our first contact all weekend which allowed Katie to do what she does best....get the ball to the right player in the right location at the right time to be successful." In the classroom, Ketcham has been recognized as a Dean's Honors Student and as a member of the 2011 NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team.
Ketcham also serves on the executive board of the Student Activities Council. She is a Senior Week Executive board member and serves as a teaching assistant within her academic major of computer science.
The Camels will host Roger Williams University Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
