NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Connecticut College volleyball team hosted a tri-match with Trinity College and Johnson and Wales University Saturday.
In the early NESCAC match, the Camels (6-4, 2-0) defeated Trinity (8-4, 0-2) in three games with game scores of 25-20, 25-22 and 27-24.
In the second match, the Bantams blanked the Wildcats from Johnson & Wales (0-12) with game scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-18.
Connecticut College defeated Johnson and Wales by a count of 3-1 in the final match of the day. Game scores were 25-16, 25-20, 17-25 and 25-20.
Sophomore Caroline Martin (Palo Alto, Calif.) buried 16 kills in the Trinity victory for the Camels. Connecticut College rookie outside hitter Alex Mcdevitt (Medfield, Mass.) buried 13 kills to go with 18 digs in the Trinity match. First year setter Emily Arterbury (Austin, Texas) dished out 41 assists. Sophomore libero Jamie Balkin (Glencoe, Ill.) had 24 digs.
Trinity College was led by senior outside hitter Hannah Brickley (Melrose, Mass.) who finished with 13 kill and 11 digs en route to a double-double. Sophomore Kate Giddens (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) chipped in with 11 kills. Senior setter Amy Hackett (Wallingford, Conn.) dished out 15 assists while classmate Sarah Whitham added 14 helpers.
Kristen Cooprider (Hopkinton, Mass.) added 13 digs for the Bantams.
In the second match of the day, Brickley posted a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs. Whitham dished out 17 assists while Hackett added 16 helpers. Cooprider registered 26 digs for the winning side.
The Wildcats received six kills from sophomore Marissa Bunnewith (Milbury, Mass.). Kasey Higgins (Wallingford, Conn.) dished out 10 assists. Giselle Cram (Vega Alta, Puerto Rico) collected 28 digs.
In the final math of the night, Martin rifled home 10 kills to lead the Camels. Arterbury dished out 23 assists. Cailyn Straubel (Dallas, Texas) chipped in with nine digs.
Carey Kirk (Purcelville, Va.) had six kills for Johnson & Wales. Megan Bollerman (Mahwah, N.J.) finished with four kills. Kellen Tensen (New Canaan, Conn.) dished out 14 assists for the visitors. Cram added 26 digs in the loss.
