Martin Tallies 46 Kills & 49 Digs at MIT Invitational for Camels

CAMBRIDGE Mass.--The Connecticut College volleyball team visited the Bay State of Massachusetts to compete in the MIT Invitational this weekend.

The Camels (1-5), ranked #11 in New England, posted a 1-3 record against some challenging opposition.

Friday night, the Camels dropped a 3-1 decision to undefeated Springfield College (8-0), the second ranked team in New England before they fell to MIT, the seventh ranked team in New England in a 3-0 blanking.

Match scores against Springfield were 25-22, 19-25, 25-16 and 25-20 in favor of the Pride. The host Engineers won with set scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-12.

Saturday, the Camels dropped a 3-1 decision to Babson with set scores 25-22, 20-25, 25-21 and 25-23 in favor of the Beavers.  Connecticut College closed out its weekend by posting its first win of the 2014 campaign, rolling past Emmanuel in a 3-0 triumph. Set scores were 25-8, 25-7 and 25-22 in favor of the Camels.

Junior outside hitter Caroline Martin (Palo Alto, Calif.) paved the way for the Camels in the Emmanuel victory, registering a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs. Martin buried 46 kills and had 49 digs to go with seven blocks in 14 sets of action this weekend.

Sam Hunter registered 24 kills to go with eight digs and four blocked shots in 14 sets of play. Alex McDevitt finished with 23 kills and 19 digs in 13 sets, while Ella Johnson had 21 kills and eight blocks in 14 sets of action.

Katia Elisman (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Emily Arterbury (Austin, Texas) dished out 53 assists each in 14 sets of action.

Cailyn Straubel (Dallas, Texas) contributed with 43 digs and seven assists in 14 sets of play.

The Camels will host Western New England University Tuesday night for a 7:00 p.m. match in New London.
