BRUNSWICK, Maine -(Bowdoin College Athletic Communications) The Connecticut College women's volleyball team stunned Bowdoin, 3-0, in the New England Small College Athletic Conference opener for both squads on Friday evening at Morrell Gymnasium.
The Camels improve to 3-2 (1-0 NESCAC) with the win while the Polar Bears, the top ranked team in the latest New England Women's Volleyball Association poll, fall to 8-2 (0-1 NESCAC) with just their second home loss in their last 54 home games.
Connecticut College claimed the victory by game scores of 25-22, 26-24, 25-10. The Camels used late runs to edge the Polar Bears in the first two sets before rolling off a decisive 15-0 run in the third set, going from down 4-2 to up 17-4, to clinch the match.
Ella Johnson and Alex McDevitt both put home a team-high seven kills for the Camels, while Johnson added seven blocks. Caroline Martin notched six kills and seven digs for Conn. College while Katia Elisman dished out 16 assists. Caroline Branigan led the Camels with 11 digs.
The Polar Bears were led by 10 kills from Christy Jewett to go with three service aces. Hailey Wahl had 12 digs in the loss for Bowdoin.
The Camels will travel to Waterville to play at Colby at 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
