NEW LONDON, Conn. --Freshman Angelou Dunton hit .440 with a match-high 15 kills and nine digs leading host Coast Guard to a 3-0 win over neighbor rival Connecticut College in the battle of New London schools.
Coast Guard won by game scores of 26-24, 25-18 and 25-20 to improve to 7-5 on the season while the Camels lost for just the second time this season to drop to 5-2 overall.
Freshman Alexi Deane tied her career-high with ten kills while classmate Makenna Martin had a game-high 41 assists in the win.
The Bears fell behind 3-1 before scoring eight of the next nine for a 9-4 edge. Conn. would answer with six straight to regain the lead 10-9. Coast Guard would string four straight points together to take a 14-11 lead and later led 17-13 before the Camels responded with five straight to take an 18-17 advantage. Coast Guard would led 23-22 before the Camels scored two straight to set up game point. A kill by Dunton and a service error gave Coast Guard a 25-24 lead and game point and a West kill gave the Bears a 26-24 win in the opener.
In the second game, Coast Guard jumped out to an 8-2 lead. The Camels would pull to within 11-8 before the Bears scored five straight for a 16-8 lead. Leading 18-13, Coast Guard scored five of the next six for a commanding 23-14 lead and won 25-18.
Coast Guard started quick again in the third game and led 7-2 and the Bears maintained that lead throughout to win 25-20.
Senior Alex McDevitt led Connecticut College with ten kills while junior Katia Elisman had a team-high 24 assists. Junior Sam Hunter led the Camels with nine digs.
