Jasbon Named CWPA D. 3 Player of the Year, Addison Honored as Coach of the Year

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- 14 student-athletes earned the league’s highest individual honors as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) announces the league’s 2013 Division III All-Conference Team based on nominations and balloting of the head coaches from Carthage College, Connecticut College, Grove City College, Macalester College, Penn State Behrend, Utica College and Washington & Jefferson College.

Leading the squad is Connecticut’s Nicky Jasbon (So., Greenacres, Fla./Saint Andrew) who claimed First Team honors and Most Valuable Player laurels for leading the No. 8-nationally ranked Camels to a runner-up mark in the regular season.  She is joined on the First Team by teammate Kristin Lampley (Sr., Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin )

Regular season champion Grove City earned the most First Team picks as Jocelyn Hinkle (So., Freeland, Pa./Hazleton), Lauren Hulsebus (So., Belmont, Mich./Rockford) and goalie Amanda Johnston (Sr., San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) accounted for nearly half the top list.

Utica College’s Evelyn Kurzac (Jr., Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein Cons) and Washington & Jefferson College’s Sara Boldt (So., Grand Haven, Mich./East Kentwood) round out the First Team as four of the league’s seven teams earned at least selection among the coaches’ picks as the seven best players in the CWPA Division III ranks.

On the Second Team, both Carthage College and Macalester College earned pairs of selections as the Lady Reds Tya Crosse (So., Corona, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga) and Hannah Duke (Jr., Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates-Conant) join Sarah Shoemaker (So., Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) and goalie Anya Phillips (So., Geneva, Fla./Oviedo) of the Pioneers.

MaryEllen Spooner (Sr., Springfield, Va./West Springfield) of Penn State Behrend, Kristi Baur (Jr., North Wales, Pa./North Penn) of Grove City College and 2013 Division III Rookie of the Year Rachel Clauss (Fr., South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) of W&J complete the league’s 14 All-Conference selections as each of the CWPA’s seven Division III programs earned at least one pick.

Overall, the Wolverines of Grove City earned the most All-Conference honorees with four, while Connecticut, Carthage, Washington & Jefferson College and Macalester each earned pairs of award recipients.  Utica and Penn State Behrend claimed single All-Conference nods.
