BRISTOL, R.I.--Connecticut College placed three of its runners among the top seven finishers to win the 11 team Roger Williams University Invitational at Colt State Park in Bristol Saturday afternoon.
It was a successful title defense for the Camels, who won the 2012 RWU Invitational.
"I am quite pleased with the outcome and am optimistic about how the season will progress," Connecticut College Head Women's Cross Country Coach Ned Bishop said. "Our top five scorers were all considerably faster than last year on the same course.
The top five freshman finishers in the race were Connecticut College runners, a positive sign for the future development of the program.
Kelsey McGinnis (Somerset, Mass.) posted a time of 19:24 to finish as the runner up on the 5k course. Sophomore Emily Winter (Easton, Conn.) finished fourth with a time of 20:12 for the Camels. Ashley Curran (Franklin, Mass.) checked in with a time of 20:23 to place seventh. All three Camels earned spots on the All-Invitational team.
Sophomore Anna Laurence (Newton, Mass.) posted a time of 20:55 to finish in 11th place. Nicole Adam (Cheshire, Conn.) was the 12th finisher with a time of 20:57 for the Camels. Senior Sarah Huckins (Henniker, N.H.) posted a time of 21:02 en route to her 13th place showing.
Anna Guay (Watertown, Conn.) was the seventh Camel finisher in 17th place overall with a time of 21:22.
