MANCHESTER, Conn.--The Connecticut College women's cross country team placed its top five runners among the top 20 to finish second at the 10 team Trinity College 5k Invitational at Wickham Park Saturday with a score of 56 points.
Trinity College scored 33 points to secure the victory in its home race.
Senior Ashley Curran (Franklin, Mass.) placed second in the field with a time of 20:05. Classmate Bella Franz (Watermill, N.Y.) finished fifth in 20:34. Anna Guay (Watertown, Conn.) was next for the Camels with a time of 21:46.
Junior Grace Sheeran (Medina, Wash.) completed the course in 22:12 to finish in 17th place for Head Coach Ned Bishop's Camels. Sophomore Caitlin Teare (Yarmouth, Maine) placed 19th in 22:21. Cayla Condon (Sherborn, Mass.) was 21st with a time of 22:33. Senior Sabina Flandrick (Boulder, Colo.) was the seventh Camel to complete the course in 22:36.
The Camels ran this race as a workout. They ran the first 3k as tempo/threshold pace, which is faster than distance running but well below race effort. They then built up gradually from 3k to 4k before they closed out the race running full speed in the final kilometer.
