NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College women's sailing team placed second at the Last Chance Women's Team Race at home on the Thames River on Saturday. As a result, the Camels qualified for the Women's New England Team Racing Championship.
Juniors Aili Moffet (Jamestown, R.I.) and Miya Preyer (Brick Township, N.J.) led the women's team to an impressive start to their racing season. Skippers senior Ana Clarkson (Seattle, Wash.) and junior Hailey Pemberton (Osterville, Mass.), and crew, junior Kensie Winton (Newton, Mass.), senior Elizabeth Davis (Naples, Fla.), and junior Margaret Benson (Wellesley, Mass.) also assisted in the qualification.Â
The coed team also raced this weekend and placed 7th out of nine teams at the Jan T. Friis Team Race at Roger Williams in Bristol, Rhode Island. There was a solid amount of wind throughout the majority of the weekend, leading to incredibly tight races amongst the top seven teams.
Senior skippers CJ McKenna (Harwich, Mass.), Tommy Whittemore (West Hartford, Conn.), Will Bedford (Arlington, Mass.), and Walter Henry (Syosset, N.Y.) led the team in a quality result against some of the best teams in New England.Â
The women's team will next compete at the Women's New England Team Racing Championship at Brown University beginning on April 2 . The coed team will compete at the Marchiando TR in Boston, Massachusetts.
