NEW LONDON, CONN. - The Connecticut College sailing teams started off the spring season by racing in two different regattas this past weekend. The coed team competed in the Hap Moore race at home, and the women's team competed in the Rhody the Riveter event at Salve Regina in Newport, R.I.
The coed team placed 3rd out of eight teams. The finish was a complete team effort put forth by senior Tommy Whittemore (West Hartford, Conn.), junior Allie Tillinghast (New York, N.Y.), senior CJ McKenna (Harwich, Mass.) and sophomore Cecilia Bohan (Newport, R.I.). Seniors Will Bedford (Arlington, Mass.), Jean-Michel Bus (Sag Harbor, N.Y.), Walter Henry (Syosset, N.Y.) and junior Eloise Pieper also contributed to the strong performance.
The women's team placed 7th out of twenty teams finishing with a total of 59 points. Senior skipper
Ana Clarkson (Seattle, Wash.) placed 5th in Division A along with crew members junior
Kensie Winton (Newton, Mass.) and senior
Alexandra Wagner (Southport, Conn.).
Connecticut College will next travel to Florida for spring break regattas. The coed team will compete at Eckerd College and the women's squad will participate in an event at the University of South Florida.
