NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College field hockey team fell to No. 1 Middlebury by a 4-0 score on Saturday afternoon at Silfen Field.
Four different players found the back of the cage for the Panthers, who scored three times in the first half and once in the second. Danielle Brown opened the scoring in the 21st minute when she slid the ball inside the post, and Grace Murphy doubled the margin when she hit the ball off Camel netminder Andi McGraw (Sheffield, Mass.) and past the goal line. Isabel Chandler then potted a rebound to make it 3-0 at the break, and Grace Jennings added insurance through a scrum in the 47th minute of action.
Megan Collins redirected all three shots she faced for Middlebury (2-0, NESCAC 1-0), which outshot the Camels by a 26-9 margin and had a 16-2 advantage in penalty corners. Freshman Jackie Mountford (Sherborn, Mass.) was impressive between the pipes for the hosts by making eight saves and only yielding one goal over the last 35 minutes.
Connecticut College (0-2), which has faced two top-10 opponents so far, will hit the road for the first time this season when it faces Smith on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
